Physical Education

Although we are a small PE department at Newcastle Academy we pride ourselves on running a key department within the school where pupils strive to achieve and reach their goals.

We are very fortunate to have access to outstanding sporting facilities which include:

  • Two full size sports halls
  • Fitness suite
  • Extensive fields
  • Tennis courts
  • Astro Pitch

During Key Stage 3 pupils will cover the following sporting activities within lesson time and will also have the opportunity to take part in extra curricular activities.

Football, Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Basketball, Badminton, Swimming, Athletics, Rounders, Cricket, Rowing.

During Key Stage 4 as well as taking part in the above sports pupils also have the opportunity to take part in Volleyball, Trampolining, Fitness Suite, Table Tennis, Tennis, Dance/Dance mats, Aerobics, Ultimate Frisbee.

BTEC National Diploma in Sports Studies (Level 2)

In year 10/11 pupils get the option of studying a national diploma within sports studies. The aim of the course is to give pupils a better understanding of the sport sector, which can help them to obtain employment in this sector or to progress to a level 3 award at college.

BTEC in Sport is assessed with a number of assignments

The four keys areas focused on within the course are:

  • Fitness testing and training
  • Practical Sport
  • Injury in Sport
  • Effects of exercise on the body systems

The BTEC national diploma is the equivalent of two GCSE’s and is covered over two years.

We aim to offer you a wider range of activities. This should give you the chance of finding something that you like.

You will get the opportunity to be a leader, organiser, coach, official and spectator as well as a player.
