Some Year 6 pupils from Westlands Primary School have joined a lunchtime club to visit The Hive at Newcastle Academy every Thursday.
Activities on offer include learning sign language, playing table tennis and pool, and a range of indoor games whilst the weather is poor. The children can choose any activity and join in with Newcastle students who are there to supervise, advise and support.
Mrs Blakeman from Westlands Primary said, “It’s lovely to see the children mixing and this time will be really beneficial to them. They are making friends with the older students, building confidence and learning new skills. They are seeing the facilities on offer at the Secondary school and expanding their experience”.
Newcastle Academy believe it’s really important to encourage this relationship, ensuring the students gain interpersonal and communication skills whilst having a break from structured learning.
